The event will be one of Sydney’s largest DJ Competitions with a total prize pool of over $7000, including a 12 month contract with DJ Company “The Groove Academy” as well as DJ residency at The Bank Hotel. The Bank Hotel is looking for great ‘up and coming talent, so enter the competition by submitting a 30 minute DJ mixed CD. CDs will be reviewed and successful applicants will move through into the heats. The competition will consist of 6 heats over 6 weeks, followed by 2 semi finals and a grand final taking place on 11th December 2008. All artists and people involved are donating their time for this great cause. The gig is set to take place at The Bar UTS on the 11th with free entry, people are asked to make a donation on the night. Refugees around the world live in camps and urban settings that are horrible beyond belief. Insufficient food, no health care, little education, discrimination torture and harassment are part of their daily lives. Some children have known no other life. Rape and sexual abuse is endemic in conflict, flight and camps. Refugee women and girls live in constant danger. Refugee men feel powerless when they are unable to protect the women. The Center for Refugee research runs project with refugees in India and on the Thai Burma border., providing training and assisting communities in their advocate for improved conditions and better protection.
