Tahuna Breaks (NZ) Chris Read (BBC 1Xtra, UK) Mo'funk
Free at the Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi Friday 12th March 2010 8pm - 12am
Tahuna Breaks (NZ):
Since their beginnings in January 2005, Tahuna Breaks have always been a band built upon a simple philosophy- the love of music. The lifeblood of this band is live performance and it is from countless live gigs and tours that they have crafted their own brand of roots reggae, funk, soul and good old fashioned rock and roll. In October of 2007, two and half years after the band formed, the Auckland-based group celebrated the release of their debut album, 'Reflections,' to rave reviews across the board. In 2008, the band received the Juice TV Music Award for Best Roots / Electronica Video for the release of 'Real Life', coming in on top of an impressive lineup of New Zealand’s heavyweight acts. Put simply this is a band that thrives on working hard and winning audiences over.

Dizz1 - 3rd Time Lucky EP Launch (Beat Dimensions, Kindred Spirits) feat 13th Son Harmonic 313 & Steve Spacek Semper-Fi Dubbly
Free at the Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi Friday 19th March 2010 8pm - 12am
Dizz1 (Beat Dimensions, Kindred Spirits):
Dizz1 blends Detroit hip hop with London dubstep and plenty of bass energy in the kicks and the snares. He divides his time between teaching Ableton software classes, playing live with Academy lecturers and future-soul experts Steve Spacek and Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313), and dropping heavy beats around clubs all over Australia. Hip hop is the main influence, but mix that with some bass-heavy barefoot, '60s psychedelia and Ethiopian jazz, and you know Dizzle's beats are made of the strange stuff. A right rascal indeed.

Skryptcha (Obese Records) DJ KoolAde Mike Who
Free at the Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi Friday 9th April 2010 8pm - 12am
Skryptcha (Obese Records):
Taking his first lyrical strides in 2003, Skryptcha is blessed by the gifts of a musical family; a grandfather who spent the 60’s distilling in Sydney’s jazz movement and a concert pianist grandmother who became Australia’s first entrant into New York’s prestigious Julliard school of music, his instrumentally-charged upbringing laid the foundations for a distinct vocal talent that would ultimately evolve into his debut EP, Left to Write. Having tested his ability on several guest appearances (including spending studio time with the legendary Def Wish Cast) and on stage with Scott Burns, 2buck and new labelmates Dialectrix, Thundamentals and Pegz, Left to Write is the young MC’s initial solo foray into the recorded realm, an occasion sparked by the introduction to maestro/producer Chasm by label boss Pegz. Skryptcha’s youthful energy on record and on stage provides the urgency for his borderless musical tastes.

Direct Influence (Melbourne) Lotek (Melbourne) James Taylor DJ Amy
Free at the Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi Friday 16th April 2010 8pm - 12am
Direct Influence (Melbourne):
The seeds that grew into Direct Influence were first sewn in the tiny country town of Bunyip, Victoria almost a decade ago. As high school students Dylan Smith (vox) and Marcus Ross (guitar) were anxious to create a unique sound that would combine the soulful reggae and RnB from Dylan’s homeland of New Zealand with the dirty rock/rap Marcus was playing at the time. After meeting in Australia, the pair quickly transformed these ideas into songs and the rest came naturally. Following on from some huge shows in late 2009, D.I. now announce their ‘War In My Kitchen’ Australia/NZ album tour. The album’s mix of love, fun and empowerment is sure to strike a chord with anyone from chart-gazers to reggae rude boys to club stompers and indi kids alike.
